In yet another example of the tone deafness that has led Democrats to become the minority party in Congress and most statehouses and legislatures around the country, many of them didn’t waste a second on Monday leaping to conclusions about the terrible tragedy still unfolding in Las Vegas.
As you likely know, a gunman using automatic weapons opened fire on a crowd of thousands attending a country music event from a window in his Mandalay Bay Casino hotel room, killing at least 58 people while wounding another 515-plus.
Police were still piecing together information about the mass murderer, Stephen Paddock, 64, who apparently had assembled a small arsenal of at least 10 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition in the days before opening fire on concert-goers around 10 pm Sunday night, when Democrats once again began pushing for — wait for it — gun control.
As in the past, Democrats are attempting to politicize this incident as a way of pushing for a total gun ban, which is their ultimate goal and has been for decades. And don’t think for a moment that isn’t their objective; it is.
The inane, politically-charged comments were kicked off by none other than two-time failed presidential contender Hillary Clinton, who tweeted, “Our grief isn’t enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again.” (Related: Five things that just don’t add up about the Las Vegas mass shooting.)
She also went after silencers, which many around the country are pushing to legalize. “The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.”
Well, the victims were attending a concert, genius, which features loud music, so it took several moments before many in the crowd realized what was going on anyway. Still, Clinton’s Alt-Left persona meant her first instinct was to criticize the method of killing, not the killer himself.
That nonsense was followed up by angry (and factually incorrect) tweets and statements from U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, whose district includes the Sandy Hook Elementary School, where dozens of children were murdered by a mentally unstable young man using legally bought and kept firearms.
“Nowhere but America do horrific large-scale mass shootings happen with this degree of regularity,” he said. “Last night’s massacre may go down as the deadliest in our nation’s history, but already this year there have been more mass shootings than days in the year.”
That’s factually incorrect. In this age of international terrorism, mass shootings are on the rise everywhere, especially in Europe. And the majority of recent mass shootings in the U.S. have been tied to international terrorist groups. So there’s that.
“This must stop,” he continued. “It is positively infuriating that my colleagues in Congress are so afraid of the gun industry that they pretend there aren’t public policy responses to this epidemic. There are, and the thoughts and prayers of politicians are cruelly hollow if they are paired with continued legislative indifference. It’s time for Congress to get off its ass and do something.”
Do what, senator? What is it you really want Congress to do? Short of banning all firearms, what else can Congress do?
As this point, we (which includes Sen. Clueless) don’t know diddly squat about the shooter, his motivations, how he obtained his weapons, etc. Several legacy media outlets reported that Nevada has lax gun laws; so what? California doesn’t, and yet a pair of terrorists still managed to kill more than a dozen people with so-called “banned” semi-automatic rifles.
You can buy a fully-automatic weapon, but a) they are prohibitively expensive for most people; b) are heavily regulated by the federal government; and c) can only be purchased via a special licensing process via the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The Alt-Left’s premier magazine, the New Republic, was blatant: All guns should be banned immediately, including “as much as possible, on police.”
We can’t fix evil, as Paddock proves. And as liberal-progressive Democrats and media prove, we can’t fix stupid, either.
